Project 4 Typographic Portrait Process Questions Typography I, GRAP301 Describe your process of creating your first draft of your portrait. 1. Describe the method you used to begin your creative process. First I wanted to find a font that would work well with my photo. Then I just tried out different letters and symbols to see what fit best with the structure of my face. 3. Share your thoughts about your choices of letterform (i.e, “f”, “H” or “O”) and typeface (i.e., Helvetica, Times)? Well I wanted a typeface that was like script. So I found a type called Champagne and it worked really well. I used the letters like f and j for around my face because they have long descenders that can work with the shape of my face. I used the letter “s” for my hair because my hair is curly and it had nice swirls in it to look like my hair. 4. How did you experiment and discover shape relationships? I fooled around with it a lot until I found what fit best. 6. What do you believe to be the strengths and weaknesses of each of your first draft? Well I thought the hair came out okay. The eyes didn’t look like me so that is a definite weakness. Describe your process of creating your final portrait. 1. What are your thoughts after the classroom critique? I agree with a lot of what people said and tried to take what they said and improve my portrait for the final. 2. Was the consensus of your classmates in-line with your own perception of the work? I didn’t see what they said until it was said. After I heard the critic and the suggestions I understood where they were coming from. Lessons Learned 1. What have you learned in the creation of this design? Was there anything that you learned about the way that you began this project or the methods you used while developing the design? I learned that I sometimes see things in a different way then other people do and when you see things in someone else’s view you can learn to improve your work. 2. List the technical things you learned while in this process. I learned a different way to change the contrast in a photo. |
