Process Questions
Typography I, GRAP301
Describe your process of creating your thumbnail sketches.
1. Describe the method you used to begin your creative process.
Well I knew I had to work with art materials so I thought of what kind of materials would be easy to get a hold of. Then I wanted to come up with a little phrase or something sort of inspirational. So I came up with Express, Innovate, Create. So I wanted to spell them out with the art materials.
2. Share your thoughts about your choice of typeface (i.e., Helvetica, Times)?
I used Hobo Std because this is for a kids summer camp and it’s a fun font.
3. Did you have a pre-conceived idea of a design when you began each of the thumbnails or did you experiment and discover visual concepts?
I already knew somewhat of what I wanted to do so I just made each one a little different to see what would work the best.
4. Explain how you involved experimentation with the any of the effects of gravity, weight, tension, perspective, movement, positive and negative space.
I moved around the graphics a lot to get a good balance in the composition. Also I tried to create movement with the colored pencils and the paint and paint tube.
5. What do you believe to be the strengths and weaknesses of each of your thumbnail sketches?
The first thumbnail much like the other two doesn’t have enough information to show what I wanted to do, but I like how its laid out. I don’t like how the second one is horizontal. I don’t like how the third one looks at all. I wanted to come up with something more original than “express yourself.”
Describe your process of creating your comp for Project 1.
1. What are your thoughts about choosing the thumbnail that you are? Why is it your best choice?
I felt the composition worked the best in this thumbnail.
Lessons Learned
1. What have you learned in the creation of this design? Was there anything that you learned about the way that you began this project or the methods you used while developing the design?
I learned how to change things to make the composition work. It was hard to figure out how to make the logo, that I couldn’t change, work with what I wanted to do with the composition.
2. List the technical things you learned while in this process.
I don’t think I really learned anything technical in creating this project. |
